Big Stone Gap, VA

We have arrived to the beauty of Big Stone Gap, VA known for it’s southern charm, home of the outdoor drama “Trail of the Lonesome Pine” and a series of novels by Adriana Trigiani and featured in the 2014 movie “Big Stone Gap” which was filmed on location and The Blue Highway Fest .(And also home to family members).  We will be exploring the town more this week and see what we can get into.

One of the questions that we are asked the most often after finding out that we are living full time in an RV is “How is it living in such a small space with 3 dogs, two that are very large?   Well, first of all, I will say that THEY don’t seem to mind…

So I thought I’d share a little about “Dreamer” and living “on the road”.  About fifteen years ago we lived on the road for ten months and traveled across the country in a 28’ motorhome and had a great experience though it was much cozier but served its purpose as traveling manager of music duo Pianafiddle. We learned a lot about living on the road.
When we first started looking this time we didn’t plan to go with a large diesel RV. We were visiting Bobby’s brother, Peanut, in Myrtle Beach and this RV just presented itself unexpectedly. It just seemed this was the one so we went for it. The problem was that neither of us knew how to drive it. Bobby had no interest and I couldn’t wait! I called around to RV dealers, camping businesses, and driving schools with no luck of finding anyone to show me how. (The owner had passed away). So what do you do when you need to learn something new….YouTube of course. After an evening of watching all relevant videos, we were ready to hit the road!
“Dreamer” offers 40’ and has 3 slide outs that give us several more feet of living space. We have two full size sofas, a full kitchen including a side by side refrigerator, a queen size bed, and a large closet space that utilizes the width of the rear of the rv, A sufficient bathroom area and a full size shower. We have a tv in the front living area, one in the bedroom and we carry with us a Starlink setup so we always have WiFi available wherever we are.  Two of our ‘have to’ items included are the espresso machine and Ninja air fryer. Oh…and we brought along portable electric fireplace heater for winter ambience.
The dogs have been crate trained since they were pups (which I highly recommend). We removed the dining area by lowering the table and using a few sections of portable fencing to build them a king size doggie bed. They love their space and it makes for great security when needed.  We have a portable fence and they love having their outdoor space.

Oh and by the way, she got her name because Bobby has always told me I was a dreamer so it seemed appropriate

We are parked as the ‘JessieLee RV Park’ here in Big Stone Gap just minutes from town.  It is one of the cleanest, nicest parks we have ever stayed in.  There is walking green belt that can be accessed here that circles the entire town of Big Stone Gap that we are anxious to try out.  Soon it will be decorated for Christmas.

We are now in month two and it is so hard to believe!

Until.next time…
Beni and Bobby ❤️
